Sam and I decided to keep on exploring the South Fork so we hiked up the Deer Creek trail (different than Deer Creek) towards The Ghosts. A gorgeous hike put us atleast 1500ft up the hill before we could start the traverse into Deer Creek. We walked by several climbs that were, you guessed it, not in. BUT, over 2 hours later we got to where we could see the Ghosts and they were in. Had it not been departure day, we would have climbed some ice. Had we not had to put the boot pack in, we would have climbed some ice. Had we got up a little earlier expecting to find ice, we would have climbed some ice. We still didnt get disheartened, it was a great sunny day for a hike. By the time we were back at camp, it was a blizzard. We swung into Cassy's for a cheeseburger and beer and made it home with all our fingers and toes. South Fork, I will see you again.
